It’s a bit slow, esp. if you are traveling in other countries. Editing posts or things like that can “hang” sometimes when using the remote database, at least the cheapest DO option… more network latency I guess.
But if your frontend is cached properly using full-page Nginx cache (or etc) than not such a big issue, and the failover helps improve stability.
So you get better stability but at the cost of some hanging and slowness sometimes on the backend IMO
