What files are absolutely required if you are going to launch a new basic WordPress theme

this is a huge list, which files do I actually need

I think the absolute minimum is index.php and style.css and maybe functions.php

I understand why they did it but it’s actually kinda annoying in some ways that style.css is required

I’m pretty sure this rumor is inaccurate.

I think you don’t need functions.php actually, only the other 2 files.
